Mayumi Taguchi Watercolor

(English)

Following a career in industrial and architectural design in Italy and years spent living in the UK, Germany, and Brazil, I am currently based in Kobe, Japan.

My practice begins with an exploration of time, perception, and traces of human presence through everyday objects and shared rituals. Drawing from my design background, I approach objects not as static forms, but as sites where relationships, memory, and temporal experience emerge.

Cups, tables, flowers, and remnants of meals recur throughout my work, functioning not as symbols but as structures through which human presence and the accumulation of time can be perceived. Rather than describing specific events, these elements create a field where memory, absence, and shared experience briefly converge.

Having lived across different cultural contexts, I am also interested in how objects, images, and visual traditions migrate, transform, and acquire new meanings over time. Through my practice, I explore time not as a linear progression, but as a layered and simultaneous condition embedded within everyday experience.

"Through everyday objects and material processes, I explore how time, memory, and human presence become visible." — Mayumi
